Switching Your Driver's License to Florida: What You Need to Know

Are you a new resident in the state of Florida? If so, you must transfer your driver's license from another state to a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of establishing residency. This article will provide you with all the information you need to know about switching your driver's license to Florida. To obtain a valid Florida driver's license, you must provide proof of identity, proof of social security number, and proof of address. Acceptable documents for proof of primary identification include a passport, birth certificate, or military ID.

You must also provide proof of residency in the form of a rental lease agreement, utility bill, or similar type of document. When you go to the DMV, make sure to bring your license from your previous state as you will be required to hand it in order to obtain the new license. A person's name must be verified with the Social Security electronic system to obtain a Florida driver's license or identification card. A customer cannot use their current driver's license or identification card as proof of address.

Once you have provided all the necessary documents and paid the applicable fees, you will be issued a temporary FL driver's license which you can carry with you until you receive your FL permanent driver's license within 7 to 10 business days. It is important to note that if you move back and forth between a “winter residence” in Florida and a “summer residence” elsewhere and do not stay in Florida for more than six months in a row, then you are not eligible for a Florida driver's license. Now that you know what is required to switch your driver's license to Florida, make sure to take care of it within 30 days of establishing residency in the state. Good luck!.
